Sitting and breathing with a tree or in a forest is an easy natural way to unwind, relax, and calm down. Native Americans teach that trees are beacons of life force energy. Their spirits live in the tops of trees where they communicate with the star nations. Every time a tree is cut down, we lose more of our cosmic connections with the stars. Trees are the earthly vessels, columns if you will, that anchor us with celestial knowledge and beauty all of which bring more vitality to Earth.
To sit with a tree is to take a moment to connect with nature and yourself. Be still, listen, and breathe. As you sit down, politely introduce yourself to your chosen tree, and send love to the tree spirits; they will come down for a visit. Linger as long as you like, share what you desire, and leave an offering of gratitude.
In Japan sitting and breathing with trees has been adopted and accepted, there it is commonly known as Forest Bathing or shinrin-yoku. Forest bathing is used to promote relaxation and well-being. It urges one to utilize all five senses while sitting with a tree, whether it is a forest, or in your backyard, with no or very limited distractions. Since its adaptation forest bathing is practiced worldwide.
